    Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

By 2014, schools are required to publish information about services they provide for children with disabilities and Special Educational Needs. Wigan Authority have published their document which is called the ‘local offer’.

The intention is to offer choice and transparency for families, as well as providing a resource for professionals to detail the range of services and provision locally.

At St Paul's C E Primary School we believe that every pupil has individual and unique needs.  Some pupils may have special educational needs, permanent or temporary disabilities at some time during their school life.  Many of these pupils will require long or short term support to reach their potential, so in recognising this, we plan accordingly.  Pupils with SEN are engaged as fully as is practical and compatible with their needs, in all activities within our school.  Our aim is to provide a wide variety of strategies that will remove the barriers to learning and address pupil's  needs, in a supportive and inclusive environment.

We have due regard for the Special Educational Needs and Disability Code of Practice when carrying out our duties towards all pupils with SEND and ensure that parents and carers are aware and involved when SEND provision is being made for the child.  We recognise that children with Special Educational Needs are an integral and valued part of our school community.  We believe that every child matters and our inclusive philosophy stresses the right of all children to be fully involved in all aspects of school life.  Our curriculum ensures that every child has the opportunity to shine and have their achievements recognised.  The school works closely with parents and health education professionals in the process of identifying and meeting the individual special needs of children.
